Exceptional cuisine that elevates the treasures of the river and the Ardennes terroir.
Push open the door of Restaurant Bonhomme and the modern world fades away. Authentic porcelain waits upon white tablecloths, silver cutlery gleams softly in the candlelight. In the homarium, lobsters, trout and crayfish swim in fresh running water — they will be on your plate within the hour, prepared with the same care as in 1768.
Our signature dish: Lobster Bonhomme style. Chosen live from our homarium, prepared to order, served with all the know-how of eight generations. Lobsters, trout and crayfish swim in cold, pure Ardennes spring water. From tank to plate in under an hour — a freshness you won't find anywhere else.
Eel in green herb sauce, guinea fowl « Fines Champagnes », game from the nearby forests — every dish tells the story of a terroir. King Albert I of Belgium tasted it. Fernandel asked for seconds. A Michelin star already recognised this excellence back in 1937.
Beneath the century-old elms, the terrace stretches out over the Amblève. It is here, lulled by the murmur of the river, that travellers in 1768 already took their meals after entrusting their horses to the stables. Two hundred and fifty years on, the view has not changed.
In the evening, when the lights reflect on the water and the scent of lime blossom mingles with that of grilled lobster, one understands why Mistinguett refused to leave.
An elegant dining room in warm tones, a romantic terrace by the Amblève: choose your setting for an exceptional moment.
The homarium is a Restaurant Bonhomme exclusive, created in the 1950s. It consists of tanks fed with cold, pure Ardennes spring water, where lobsters, trout and crayfish live. The word “homarium” exists only at the Bonhommes'. This system guarantees absolute freshness: produce goes from tank to plate in under an hour.
Yes, Restaurant Bonhomme is open to everyone, hotel guests and outside visitors alike. Lunch is served from 12:00pm to 2:30pm and dinner from 6:15pm to 8:30pm. The restaurant is closed on Wednesdays all year round, and on Thursdays outside the high season. Reservations are recommended, especially at weekends and during the tourist season. Phone: +32 4 384.40.06.
The restaurant's specialities are the fresh produce from the homarium: lobster grilled with herb butter, crayfish cassolette with tarragon cream, pan-fried river trout, crayfish flambéed in Cognac. You'll also find eel in green herb sauce, guinea fowl « Fines Champagnes », wild boar stew in season, and Ardennes beef fillet. All served on authentic porcelain with silver cutlery.
The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in 1937 — the first establishment in the Amblève valley to be so recognised — which it held until 1940, then regained after the war until 1958. This historic distinction bears witness to know-how passed down from generation to generation for over 250 years.
